always a work in progress...

For the most part, this will be a low-key record of the things I’m working on and thinking about in more-or-less realtime. There are some random things that’ll just find their way onto the general blog, and some others where I’m making a sustained effort, which will get their own pages on the menu at left. Right now, nearly all my work-time is going to the History grad program at UMass, so the reading page at left will be a good place to look for current stuff. There's a page called Living History, about experiencing history first-hand. I’ll try to add to that as time permits. And there's a new page called Regular People's History, where I'm going to try to explore some new questions.

Lots of this stuff appears in blog format, because that seems most useful and manageable at this point. Later, I might try to organize things a little more. Research work I'm doing now will appear later, since it's going into a dissertation I'm hoping to sell as a book. It's tough to hold back, because I'm discovering really interesting material, and my instinct is to put it out there. But people I trust have advised me to keep it under wraps until it’s done. In general, my ideas on intellectual property range somewhere between
copyleft and “crunch all you want, we’ll make more.” But if you want to use something you find here, please let me know, and give me some credit. Thanks.
